ALL ARE WELCOME HERE

I am an ally to LGTBQ2S+ individuals and communities and an advocate for destigmatizing mental wellness for all. Growth involves prevention and supporting humanizing and connecting opportunities to combat the pain, shame, and silence so many of us have felt or continue to feel.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is described as a body-based talk therapy that utilizes neuroscience to harness your innate capacity to heal. Most clients are aware of traditional talk therapies that use the words of a person as the entry point for treatment. Alternatively, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™ depends on the clients’ bodily experiences as the access route to awareness and healthier interaction between thoughts, emotions, and the body. Because Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™ is a gentle approach involving intentional pacing of sessions, it is often an effective form of treatment for adult survivors of childhood trauma.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Some memories have a lasting distressing effect and can continue to impact your present moment experiences. EMDR effects the way the brain functions. Through use of eye movements or alternating bi-lateral stimulation, acceleration of processing and redirection of the mind occurs when emotions, physical sensations, images, sounds and feelings are relived. EMDR is a powerful method of doing psychotherapy and is highly effective in decreasing the level of distress associated with the effects of trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, OCD and many more presenting challenges. EMDR is also used to strengthen resilience and competence in individuals competing in sports or experiencing anxiety regarding future events.

If you are looking to do Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) please note that you need to book a 60 minute intake appointment and a subsequent 90 minute EMDR appointment shortly thereafter.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)

We all have parts of self and all parts of welcome. These can be internalized from our family origin and may be younger aspects of ourselves. Often, our challenges originate where there are unresolved conflicts between different parts of self and one’s core “Self” known as the compassionate core of every human being. These wounded parts can show up through perfectionism, self-sabotage, perfectionism, and strong emotions such as anger and shame. The parts function to control or protect the person from the pain of these wounded parts. You will be invited to recognize and identify these parts and acknowledge your feelings about these internalized and suppressed emotions. Through giving your parts voice, you will learn ways to let go of these feelings and in doing so, shift some of the blocks that have been in your way of healing.

“When parts of us feel internally connected and held lovingly inside, each can experience feeling safe, welcome, and worthy, often for the first time. The first step is to become curious about this ‘other’ inside whom we really do not know.”

Janina Fisher, 2017

“Can you love yourself enough to listen with the ears of your heart to the other voices of yourself speaking?”

Elizabeth Cogburn

In my EFMH practice, I uphold the following:

Vision:

A safe and protected space for fostering within clients a felt sense of hope that thriving beyond surviving is possible through healing connection with animals.

Mission:

To uphold ethical and supportive psychological services rooted in a safe and nurturing approach that invites meaningful and healing connection between individual clients, horses, and other animals.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is based on the cognitive model- the way that you perceive a situation is more closely reflective of your experience than the situation itself. CBT involves a curiosity and examination of how your thoughts influence your emotions and your behaviours. You will learn how to harness your thoughts to shift your thinking and behaviours to enhance mood and your overall sense of wellness.

dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

I use DBT in individual therapy as an approach to support individuals in enhancing emotion regulation. This is achieved through learning and practicing coping skills in order to expand your options for effectively addressing distress and overwhelm stemming from past trauma or present stressors.

*Please note- I do not provide comprehensive DBT (individual therapy, group skills training, and phone coaching). However, I am happy to discuss referral options in the city should you require a comprehensive DBT program.
